That Old Black Magic: Music

There's nothing like music to stir the inner being. There's nothing like great orchestral music to inspire, encourage, and brighten the day with the poetry of song. There's nothing like the Sierra Vista Symphony to interpret those melodies and add a lilting lift to your world.

Begin your musical journey on October 24, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. with Eurpoa! For classical orchestral music, Europe is often the source. So from East to West that continent offers us the richness of the varied landscapes.  This concert will be conducted by Guest Conductor Keitaro Harada.

Continue your musical journey with a trip through Latin America on January 21, 2011 with Latin Dreams/Latin Nights. There is harp magic in store for the audience as harpists Dr. Carrol McLaughlin and Gustavo Beaklini perform Elias Parish-Alvars' Concertina for Two harps.

And we end our journey on March 12, 2011 with Americana. Broadway's magic casts its spell with the splendor of its musicals. And add to the evening the sounds of George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue along with a tribute to Henry Mancini and you will definitely be spellbound.

All concerts are presented at the Buena Performing Arts Center in Sierra Vista beginning at 7:00 p.m., except for the October 24 Concert which will start at 1:00 P.M. Beginning promptly at 6:00, a free half-hour seminar is presented by Dave and Jean Perry for those desiring to know more about the composers and their music. The Pre-concert seminar for the October 24 concert will start at 12:15.

Concert ticket prices are: $30 preferred seating, $25 general admission seating; $30 family (with children). Students 14 and under are admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult. Tickets are available at Dillard's, Safeway, Oscar Yrun Community Center, and the Sierra Vista Chamber of Commerce. The Pre-concert seminar is free.

You may be eligible for free tickets when you join the Sierra Vista Symphony Association (number of tickets depends on membership level).  The Sierra Vista Symphony is a 501(c)3 corporation.
